Description : The document contains the annual general report and proceedings of the chamber, for the year 1903. The first part contains the proceedings of annual general meeting. The report includes the following issues : Increase of Work pressure in the Chamber, extension of Lord Curzon's term of service, deaths of important members in the previous year, working of the committee during the year 1903, the legislative council of India, the municipal corporation, the port commission, the boiler commission, the victoria memorial, fifth congress of Chambers of Commerce of the Empire, proposed conference of Indian chambers of commerce, treaty of arbitration between Great Britain and France, Louisiana Purchase exposition, proposed commercial mission to Persia, Indian Tea cess committee. The Law Legislation section contains: Indian Tea Cess Act, Registration of Partnerships, stamp duty on letters of hypothecation, the Police Court, Indian electricity act, stamp duties, issues related to civil judicature, small cause court act, stamp duty on fire insurance policies, registration of mortgages, australian legislation, the Bengal settled estates bill, proposed establishment of a district court in Calcutta, forged transfers, poison question, presidency banks act. The Customs secion deals with : Importation of German Salt into Rangoon, Russo-Persian Tarrif, proposed imperil customs service, duty on Indian Indigo in Japan, duty on Indian saltpetre in Japan, revision of import tarrif schedule, working of the Calcutta Customs House. The Marine section deals with : The Bengal Pilot Service, Lights in the Red Sea, accommodation for the Wheat and Seed trade at Kidderpore, accommodation for the Hide trade, the New Mail contract, Bengal daily weather report, deepening of the Harbour at Aden, river due on Coal, shipment of tea at Hongkong, the Luf point Scheme, lights on the Madras Coast. The Municipla section includes : Improvement of the City, abolition of private gowkhanas, registration of servants, the smoke nuisance in Calcutta, Calcutta Tramways regulation, Ticca Gharry Service. The Telegraphs section includes : communication with Andaman, official telegraph code vocabulary, reduction in charges for inland communication. The Financial section includes : proposal for import duty on Silver, scarcity of rupees, encashment of currency notes. The Railways section enlists: Bankura-Calcutta Chord railway, the railway commission, lower ganges bridge project, working of the traffic at Khulna. The Miscellaneous section includes : South African Mail Service, govermnet trade and navigation returns, improvemnet of waterways in Bengal, membership, accounts and finances, detailed accounts of the Chamber, lists of members and committees of the Chamber, details of reports and sub-committee reports, rules and regulaation of the Chamber.
